Death To Jeff Lynn by Wires On Fire
Death To Jeff Lynn by Wires On Fire
saw these guys under the pseudonym "man vs bear" on the TNT holly hunter show "saving grace"..they remind me immensely and intensely of a j.robbins project i used to love called burning airlines, with a little gatsby's american dream thrown in..love the angular, angry, downanddirty groove.mmmmmmmmm...oh - a nod to dismemberment plan, as well...

once...
okay...if you haven't seen the movie, shame on you...
i cried the entire time..
it is so not your typical love story...
it is so not your typical rock songs..
it is so compelling you will wonder how you ever existed without
these songs before...
i've had a tshirt in my drawer for years now and finally found out that the eight ball that wasn't black but had a blue stripe instead was, in fact, a FRAMES tshirt..apparently i saw them at the black cat in DC opening for god knows whom and was so impressed i bought the shirt - but it had no other identifying marks and i had totally forgotten until after the movie came out - i did a bunch of research and WTF?! there was my shirt! on a web page credited to the band that just blew my mind in the movie!
kismet....
please enjot the song and please go buy the album....

Peter Gabriel - Shock the Monkey
My only complaint is that this is the single version, and not the longer album version. This was seriously badass for its time.
Labels:
Peter Gabriel,
stuff you'd hear on WHFS

Cover Songs Worth Examining: Safety Dance
I always thought it would be a great idea to start a band that would do punk / metal covers of 80s pop tunes, and the first song I thought would work really well was the safety dance. Here are some pretty good covers, with the original at the bottom.
The original:
And just for the hell of it:

Moster Magnet - Space Lord
I was really surprised to see that this song is as new as it is. It belongs somewhere in the 90s, between Urge Overkill and Alice in Chains.
